Is Icelandic philosophy different from other ‘national’ philosophies? Can we speak of ‘Icelandic philosophers’ or ‘Icelandic philosophy’?
This volume aims at providing readers with clues that can help answer these questions, through essays written mostly by a new generation of Icelandic philosophers. The book provides a general view of Iceland’s diverse philosopical landscape. Its chapters are conceived as introductions to the thought and style of selected Icelandic philosophers. In addition, an introductory essay delves into the historical and cultural background of contemporary Icelandic philosophy, placing the philosophical outlook of intellectual life in Iceland today in a broader context.
Some of the work discussed in the book has only ever been published in Icelandic, and these perspectives and ideas are here made available to an English-speaking audience for the first time.
